Professor in the field of soil-structure interactions in northern regions
General information
The Department of Civil and Water Engineering is seeking applications for a tenured faculty position in the field of soil-structure interactions in northern regions. A privileged living environment in the heart of Quebec City, Université Laval is a major comprehensive university renowned for its culture of excellence in teaching and research.
The department is made up of a team of 25 professors who supervise 600 students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate courses in civil and water engineering, including 125 graduate students. The department also has technical and administrative support and a range of teaching and research laboratories.
Job Description
- Design and teach courses at all levels in French, particularly in the field related to the position;
- Develop an original and relevant research programme in geotechnics on soil-structure interactions in northern regions, to support the design, rehabilitation and operation of infrastructure subject to non-stationary soil conditions, for example under the influence of climate change (permafrost) or earthquakes. The programme could be developed around one or more of the following strategies: experimental sites, laboratory testing, innovative sensors, big data, modelling, and digital twins.
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate students;
- Contribute to the operation and reputation of the department, faculty and university, including the Centre de recherche sur les infrastructures en béton (CRIB).
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related engineering field;
- Doctorate in civil engineering or in a discipline relevant to the position, or about to obtain one;
- Relevance of experience acquired in relation to the job description;
- Demonstrated research skills at university level;
- Potential for developing an autonomous and promising research programme in the target field;
- Demonstrated aptitude or potential for university teaching, student supervision and pedagogical innovation at all three cycles;
- Demonstrated potential or commitment to community service;
- Ability to communicate and integrate into the institution's French-speaking environment, or a commitment to do so within a reasonable period of time;
- Suitability of professional potential with the key competencies required for professorial positions: 1) analysis, synthesis and judgement, 2) creativity and innovation, 3) communication skills, 4) interpersonal skills and openness, 5) ability to work in a team and with partners, 6) autonomy and sense of responsibility, 7) sense of ethics and duty, and 8) leadership skills;
- Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec or undertake to become one in the short-term.
