Tenure-track Faculty Position in Optical Fibre

Université Laval invites applications for a tenure-track professor position jointly appointed to the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics and Optics. At the job starting date, the chosen candidate will be expected to hold a PhD in Physics, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
Job Description
As a new faculty member at Université Laval, the appointed candidate will be invited to join the Center for Optics, Photonics and Lasers (COPL). Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in one of the targeted areas, including but not limited to:
- Design and manufacture of micro-structured optical fibers
- Photonic components and devices based on optical fibers
- Photonic materials for optical fibers
- Nonlinear and quantum-fiber devices
- Hollow core fiber design
- Fiber design for high-power lasers
The COPL offer excellent mentoring opportunities to help you develop your career to its fullest potential. In establishing your research program, you will be guided in obtaining research funding (both from government agencies and industry), as well as in the recruitment of graduate students and their research supervision. The selected candidate will be employed by Université Laval where teaching activities for undergraduate and graduate students will be conducted in French. Université Laval offers various means of learning and perfecting the French language during their first three years of employment. Furthermore, faculty members are entitled to parental leave.
The position involved also the participation in the pedagogical and administrative activities of the units and faculty. The participation in external activities of an academic nature that contribute to the influence of the departments, the Faculty and the University.
- PhD in physics or in a discipline relevant to the field of research targeted by this position
- Scientific training and experience relevant to the field identified
- Demonstrated ability to conduct university-level research
- Potential to develop an autonomous, original and high-quality research activity in the field identified
- Demonstrated aptitude or potential for university teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentoring of graduate students, and commitment to pedagogical innovation

- Ability to communicate and integrate into the institution's French-speaking environment (within a reasonable timeframe)
