Job Description
The Department of Geology and Geological Engineering is seeking individuals with research expertise in the major fields of geotechnical engineering, geohazards, and/or geological engineering. The selected candidate will be required to teach in the department's programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to develop an innovative, externally funded research program that complements the strengths of our programs.
The responsibilities associated with this position are as follows:
- Teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
- Research and publish in the areas related to the position;
- Participate in the departmental and faculty’s educational and administrative activities;
- Participation in activities that contribute to the visibility of the faculty and the University.
The selection criteria are as follows:
- Hold a bachelor's degree in geological engineering or a related program, and a doctorate in a discipline relevant to the teaching and research area targeted by this position, or be about to obtain a doctoral degree (thesis submitted);
- Relevance of scientific training and experience to the identified field;
- Demonstrated aptitude for conducting university-level research;
- Potential to develop autonomous and original research activities related to the identified field;
- Demonstrated aptitude or potential for university teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, supervision of graduate students, and committed to the continuous improvement of teaching material;
- Potential or demonstrated commitment to service to the geotechnical community;
- As Université Laval is a French-speaking university, the selected person must be able to provide high-quality teaching in French, or commit to doing so within a maximum of three years.
- Be a member of a Canadian professional engineering association or be able to become one within a maximum of three years.

Conditions
Salary according to the current collective agreement
The department is composed of a team of 13 professors who supervise about 150 undergraduate and over 80 graduate students. Research in the department is organized around four areas: geomaterials, mineral resources, natural hazard analysis, and hydrogeology.
